Our little butterfly is almost 1 and over the weekend we threw a party to celebrate her first year of life. What a thrill it has been for us all! Her cousin Aletta left today after being with us for 3 whole wonderful months and we wanted to have her big birthday bash before they headed back home.
I suppose if there was a theme it might have been fairies and butterflies. But really it was more about, well … everything that I love about having a girl. All the sweet fairytales, the whimsy; the many opportunities to create beautiful feminine details.
First, we got ourselves all dressed up, putting on the most perfect birthday onesie ever. It was gorgeous! A creation by the unbelievable Tutu Du Monde.
And then there were the cakes. Let me just tell you about these cakes. They were like nothing I've seen or tasted before. They are the creations of Heather and her daughter Tayler, 2 wonderful women who I am lucky enough to call friends (and neighbors!). The best part for you local mamas is that they are taking orders and open for business!
I am a huge fan of sweets and cakes in particular and I have a Pinterest board dedicated to all things yummy, but of course! So I sent her a few of my favorites and Heather said yes to everything. She's that good! We finally settled on a ruffled ombre 3 tier cake with the top and bottom cakes being in ombre layers of pink (I know!), a vanilla flavor with raspberry icing on the inside made from real raspberries and a fondant ruffle on the outside. It was light and fruity and incredible.
The center cake was a cookie dough flavor and it was insane. Insane! And Heather even made a chocolate salted caramel as well, simply because I was so excited about all the flavors I had seen on Pinterest and couldn't decide what sounded best. And she was happy to try them all!
It seems that no job or idea is too far fetched and her results are stunning. Everything looked so beautiful and tasted better than you could ever imagine.
If you are in the GB area and looking for someone to bake your next party cake, you can get in touch with Heather by emailing htvolkmann@att.net. Heather and Tayler are GB's best kept secret! ;)
And once the cake had been decorated with delicate pink butterflies, we welcomed our guests!
Some of the party animals made a beeline for the backyard and Scarlet and I snuck a few pictures together.
And soon after we enjoyed bagels and fruit salad, followed by a Happy Birthday song and cake!
The girls took home fairy wands (sticks from our back yard, painted and dipped in glitter) and tiny vials of fairy dust. The table linen is thrifted, the flowers are a collection from several thrifting and crafting trips over the past year, and the fresh flowers and Scarlet's flower crown are from Ebb and Flow Flowers in GB.
And eventually … with a little help from the older girls, she opened her presents.
It's hard to believe she's a a couple of weeks away from turning 1. What an incredible first year with our Scarlet bug. Your family is smitten with you little lady.
